Heronbrook Fishery

Set in a picturesque valley amidst 20 acres of idyllic Staffordshire countryside.

Heronbrook is one of Staffordshire's leading coarse fisheries and fast becoming one of the best match and pleasure fishing venues in the country.
Six amazing pools designed and built by the owner Neil Dale.
Facilities include "The Cabin", supplying a small selection of tackle and baits.
Toilet facilities are also available at the cabin.
The transformation of Heronbrook Fisheries in such a short time must now rate it as one of the countries leading match and pleasure fisheries.
So much so that, the UK Individual Championships (round one) the Maver/AT Pairs Qualifier, the Shakespeare AT Advanced Masters and the Army Nationals are all regular National Events held at Heronbrook Fisheries, along with the NFA organised matches of Fishomania and the Veterans National.

Meadow Pool :

A horseshoe shaped lake with 58 pegs around the inside island.
First stocked in February 2004 with common, mirrors and F1 carp up to 12 oz.
Since then other stocks have seen the introduction of green tench, golden tench, chub and more mirrors and commons.
Pleasure sessions are producing a fish every cast all day and from any peg.

Island Pool :

Built in 2003. this pool has an overall round shape with 31 pegs and average depths of around 6 feet.
There are a very large head of small common and mirror carp around 1lb.
Other species are being constantly stocked, Bream & Tench to 3 lb, Crucian carp, Chub, Roach to 1 lb, Perch & Gudgeon.
Most methods seem to work with the pole proving the quickest at the moment.
The fish respond well to any bait, adding small regular amounts of groundbait to keep the fish interested.
This water is ideal for the beginner and also to introduce the youngsters to fishing. All 31 pegs to have wooden platforms & 100% access for disabled anglers

Bridge Pool :

A purpose built match water opened in 2002.
The pool is a "Z" shape with an island down its full length which has a shelf along the far bank with 5½ feet of water down the track.
With 46 pegs it has become a popular water for match & club anglers.
Productive methods seem to be sweetcorn or meat on the far shelf or floating bread to the island with meat or sweetcorn down the track also producing well.
Along with the carp that go to 6lb you can also find young barbel, tench and chub.

Match Pool :

Opened in 1994 this water is an oblong shape with 26 pegs and a large island within reach of every peg.
Depths range from 4 to 6 feet and is well stocked with a variety of species which include ghost, common & mirror carp, tench, bream, ide, roach, perch, rudd, golden rudd, crucian carp and chub.
Most methods and tactics work, but due to its shape it is more suited to the pole, fished anywhere from the near margins to tight up to the island. However, the waggler works well fished to right hand side where it is a bit wider.
The larger carp, mirrors and commons can be taken tight up to the island on bread, meat or sweetcorn, but you can catch them on the bottom between 6 & 11 metres by using meat, sweetcorn or cat food.
There are platforms large enough for wheelchairs on all banks.
Access to the lake by car is for disabled anglers only, by taking the right hand side of the Specimen Lake.
To reach the Match Pool by foot, take the path on the left hand side of the Specimen Lake.

The Canal :

A purpose built pole water 12 metres wide with over hanging trees and reeds on the far bank.
There is a shallow shelf on the far bank that drops to 6ft of water down the central track and rising to 2ft in the near margins.
The canal has a footpath all the way round with 55 well-spaced and purpose built wooden platform pegs.
Species are carp, tench, chub, barbel, ghost carp, crucian carp, roach, perch, plus many golden tench.

The New Canal :

In December 2005 the New Canal was excavated on the west side of the fishery. It is 300 meters long and a width of 12 meters.
It has been stocked with F1's. Chub, Barbel, Commons, Mirrors and Tench.
Already proven popular with the match angler.
The 2006 Fishomania qualifier was won on the New Canal.
The match record for the water is held by Steve Carrier with a weight of 161lb
