The depth of each pool varies from 3-4ft in front of the dam and going down to less than 1ft in the shallow margins at the back of each pool. The shallow nature of the pools allows the temperature to rise quickly in the spring, this is critical to the success of a carp fishery although it sometimes takes a couple of visits to get used to the pools. Most of the mirror carp vary from 6lb to 11lb but there are six 12lb mirrors scattered through all the pools in small numbers. The compact nature of the water means that everyone has a good chance of landing these fish. The pools also contain Roach and Rudd from a few ounces to 1½lb + (best in pools 4+5) and Tench from ½lb to 2lb, but these tend to be a bit elusive.
The complex is open all year round from dawn to dusk. Best baits for the colder months tend to be Maggot and worm for the the roach and sweet-corn, bread and pet-food for carp as the day progresses. In summer you name it, they'll take it! with most popular being bread, sweet-corn, cheese pet-foods luncheon-meat, shell-fish, trout-pellet pastes, maggot, worms, casters.
